Duchess Sophie (1582-1610)

The sarcophagus is painted and gilded with the coats of arms of Brunswick, Brandenburg, Prussia and Jülich-Cleves. Originally there was a crucifix on top of it and a small glass window through which the deceased Princess was seen in a dark veil and a silk crown. She was dressed in a white satin coat decorated with fine lace. The preserved lace fragments are some of the oldest samples of star-patterned lacework in Latvia. The restoration of the sarcophagus was completed and the burial was consecrated in 2015.
