What makes a piece of art beautiful? Is perfection eternal, or is its value revealed by the time? Baroque music concert “The Perfect and the Transitory: Beauty and Time” dedicated to these questions will take place in the White Hall of the Rundāle Palace Museum on 21 November.
During the Baroque period, beauty was not just external splendour – it revealed itself in harmony, ratios, and the ability to combine seeming opposites. The perfect and the transitory, the historical and modern view also co-exist in the architecture and interior of Rundāle Palace. The concert is an invitation to re-discover this interaction, uncovering not only well-known Baroque masterpieces but also less-known and surprising compositions.
The programme will include pieces of Italian Baroque composers Marco Uccellini, Agostino Steffani, Antonio Caldara, Leonardo Vinci, Pietro Locatelli, and Antonio Vivaldi. Alongside the more extensively known music of Vivaldi, the attendees will additionally have the opportunity to listen to pieces of music rarely performed in Latvia and unusual combinations of instruments revealing the diversity and creative richness of Italian Baroque.
The concert will be made even more special by the unusual composition of instruments, combining traditions of old music and modern interpretation.
The performers in the concert will be Anda Eglīte – bass kokle, Dace Priedīte – concert kokle, Artūrs Noviks – accordion, bandoneon, Lāsma Meldere-Šestakova – Baroque violin.
