A new book about David Austin’s roses in the garden of Rundāle Palace

The book Angļu rozes vārds. Deivida Ostina rozes Rundāles pils dārzā (The Name of the English Rose: David Austin’s Roses in Rundāle Palace Garden) designed by Katrīna Vasiļevska and written by Ieva Rupenheite is now available for purchase at the cashier’s office of the Rundāle Palace Museum.

The book describes 128 varieties of roses growing in Rundāle Palace garden that are bred by the world-famous English rose breeder David Austin. Many of Austin’s roses are named in honour of prominent persons, sites and fictional characters, and thus the viewing of roses offers an exciting journey into England’s cultural history.

Book designer Katrīna Vasiļevska spent several months in the palace garden looking out for the right moment to take pictures of all 128 roses during their blooming period.

The book contains an introduction by Lauma Lancmane and photographs by Katrīna Vasiļevska and Imants Lancmanis.

Alongside with the book, the Rundāle Palace Museum has created a mug collection adorned by the David Austin’s roses growing in Rundāle Palace garden. Mugs in two different sizes with different images of roses are available.
