Desk calendar for 2024 and digital content with the works of art included in the calendar have been created

Peter, the last Duke of Courland, owned the most significant art collection to be found in the territory of modern-day Latvia in late 18th century. When the Duke left Courland in 1795, he took it with him. According to the sources, mainly samples of Dutch painting were stored at Rundāle Palace, therefore the Rundāle Palace Museum has been systematically supplementing the collection with works created by artists representing this school. Such well-known authors as Philips Wouwerman, Jan van Goyen, Ludolf Bakhuizen, and Meindert Hobbema were represented in the collection of Duke Peter, meanwhile the museum has acquired the samples included in this calendar, i.e. 17th century landscapes with staffages and genre scenes, over the last ten years. These paintings have been exhibited in the Duke’s State Rooms and Private Quarters.

Alongside with the desk calendar, digital content “Dutch Painting. Calendar 2024” has been created, inviting you to go for an exploratory walk in Rundāle Palace.
During the walk, a closer look is taken at thirteen paintings the reproductions of which have been included in the calendar. The pictures highlight details and individual scenes which will make the walk captivating and educational at the same time.

All the paintings included in the calendar are currently on display in the main exhibition of the museum, except for the “Farmhouse in Winter” by Jan van de Kapelle.

The calendar is available for purchase at the ticket office of the museum, meanwhile the digital content is available for free to everyone when going to “Dutch Painting. Calendar 2024”.

Have a pleasant walk!

Price of the calendar – 5.50 EUR.
