Exhibition Gardens of Colour: From Giverny to Rundāle

The Rundāle Palace Museum’s conference centre is currently hosting an exhibition of works by Aleksejs Naumovs titled Gardens of Colour: From Giverny to Rundāle. Opened on 9 June, it will be on display until 31 August.

The exhibition showcases Naumovs’ latest series of paintings of Europe’s gardens and parks. Among them is the historical French garden at Rundāle Palace, where the artist has spent countless hours in front of his easel, as well as the legendary Jardin de Giverny near Paris and the magnificent Parc Bagatelle. It also highlights the artist’s contribution to the animation film Sirds likums (Law of the Heart).

Born in 1955, Aleksejs Naumovs is a widely recognised contemporary Latvian painters, known for his landscapes, often bathed in warm sunlight. He works in the alla prima technique, painting en plein air, and his unmistakeable signature style is characterised by vivid, contrasting areas of pink, green and turquoise, combined with playful, bold brushstrokes that depict large-scale landscapes of remarkable destinations across the globe. Naumovs holds regular solo exhibitions in Latvia and internationally. His works are in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, as well as in other museums and private collections both in Latvia and abroad.

A passionate educator, Naumov served as Head of the Art Academy of Latvia from 2007 to 2017 and currently works there as a professor of painting. He has received the Cross of Recognition for his outstanding contribution to Latvian culture and art education. His efforts in fostering cultural ties with other countries have also been recognised with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. Commendatore) and the French Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres).
