The Advent Calendar 2023 is dedicated to Zemīte altar

This year the Advent Calendar of the Rundāle Palace Museum is dedicated to the altar of Zemīte Lutheran Church – a woodcarving masterpiece made in the style of Mannerism in the second quarter of the 17th century.

The restoration of the altar lasted several years during which the grey overpaint from the 19th century was removed and the initial bright colours, supplemented by silvering and gilding, were restored. Have a close-up view of the altar and the course of its restauration, opening one window of the calendar every day! The calendar also includes elements of a game alongside with bright pictures.

The altar is the centrepiece of the Church Art Exhibition/The Holy Family Chapel arranged in the Stables building of Rundāle Palace. If you want to see the altar in a very special occassion, you are welcome to join the Christmas service on 25 December at 12.00 in the Holy Family Chapel.

We wish you a wonderful and fulfilling Advent!

The Advent calendar is available on the museum website and the tuerchen.com application.

The Advent Calendar was created by the specialists of the Rundāle Palace Museum.
