The exhibition “The Family Vault of the Dukes of Courland” at Jelgava Palace will be closed for public from 4 to 26 November.
Starting 27 November, it will reopen to visitors from Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The family vault of the Dukes of Courland at Jelgava Palace is the largest burial site of its kind in Latvia. What’s more, it’s also one of the few places in the world where a burial site of the ruling dynasties is open to the public. The vault features 21 metal sarcophagi and nine wooden coffins, containing the remains of 24 members of the Kettler dynasty (1569–1737) and six members of the Biron dynasty (1737–1795).
