The Scientific Archive at the Rundāle Palace Museum

The Scientific Archive at the Rundāle Palace Museum stores materials about Latvian monuments of architecture and art, including architecture, fine arts and craft from the oldest art history period in Latvia. The most significant part of this collection consists of measurements and photographic documentation about cultural heritage objects obtained during expeditions carried out by specialists from the Rundāle Palace Museum. It documents the condition of these objects since the 1960s. The Archive also collects copies of documents, reproductions of images and similar materials from other archives in Latvia and around the world.
Currently the Scientific Archive holds over three thousand objects – document folders about Latvian manors, palaces and their ensembles; Latvian churches and historical town centres; family history of the Dukes of Courland and Latvian nobility, and information on local craftsmen. The Archive contains approximately 70 thousand film negatives, mainly from the specialist expeditions.

The Archive is open to public by appointment only, which can be arranged by phone +371 63920608 or email arhivs[at]rundale.net.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 – 17:00.
